Manchester United reportedly turned down opportunities to sign nine other players during the summer transfer window.

At one stage shortly after Erik ten Hag's arrival at Old Trafford, there was frustration among the fanbase as United remained patient in the market.

However, the Red Devils eventually made as many as six first-team signings in a bid to transform their fortunes on the pitch.

After Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez were brought in during July, Casemiro, Antony and Martin Dubravka followed during the closing weeks.

Nevertheless, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United were provided with the chance to sign nine other players ahead of the September 1 deadline.

The most notable appears to be Memphis Depay, who seemed certain to depart Barcelona in the final days of the transfer window before ultimately remaining at Camp Nou.

Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic is another high-profile name to have been presented to club officials, but the decision was made for the United States international to continue his stint at Stamford Bridge.

Before the arrival of Casemiro, central midfielders were high up on Ten Hag's wanted list, and it is claimed that three players for that position emerged as possibilities at one stage.

However, Leandro Paredes - now at Juventus - Weston McKinnie - also of Juve - and Brighton & Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo eventually did not end up moving to the North West of England.

Then-Barcelona defender Sergino Dest could have moved to United at one stage before he agreed to depart Camp Nou for AC Milan.

Fellow right-back Thomas Meunier remained at Borussia Dortmund, despite speculation regarding his future, while Atletico Madrid's Yannick Carrasco seemingly emerged as a potential option at one point.

The final name on the alleged shortlist is Hirving Lozano of Napoli, who would have been viewed as a potential alternative to Antony.

After a dismal start to the new Premier League campaign, United have since won four fixtures in succession to sit in fifth position in the standings after six matches. body check tags ::
