Manchester United are reportedly still confident of signing Christian Eriksen on a free transfer.

The Denmark international is believed to have verbally agreed a three-year deal with the Red Devils, having left Brentford on a free transfer at the end of June.

However, Man United are yet to make an announcement on the 30-year-old, and Bees head coach Thomas Frank recently suggested that his side could yet re-sign the attacker.

"Right now he's not a Brentford player, but he's not a player for anyone else either," Frank told B.T. "It may well be that right now it seems to be a different place than with us, but let's see now.

"I have to be optimistic, but I also read newspapers. Lets see what happens. I communicate with Christian, but we keep it to ourselves until he is either signed here or somewhere else."

However, according to ESPN, despite the recent comments from Frank, Man United remain confident that they will bring the Dane to Old Trafford this month.

The report claims that Eriksen is expected to undergo his medical 'shortly' and could potentially fly out to Australia to join the Red Devils for the second leg of their pre-season tour.

Man United had allegedly initially been hopeful of signing the attacker in time for him to travel with the squad to Thailand on Friday ahead of their pre-season opener against Liverpool on July 12.

The English giants will face Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa in Australia before returning to Europe to play their final two friendlies of the summer against Atletico Madrid and Rayo Vallecano.

Eriksen had an implantable cardioverter defibrillator device fitted after suffering a cardiac arrest while representing his country at Euro 2020, which saw him leave Italian giants Inter Milan.

The Dane moved to Brentford on a free transfer in January and scored once and provided four assists in 11 Premier League appearances in the second half of last season.

"I have different offers and options, which we are considering, and then we make a decision. I would love to play Champions League football again. I know how much fun it is, but it isn't essential for me," Eriksen told Viaplay when questioned on his future.

Tottenham Hotspur had allegedly considered making an attempt to bring him back to the club, but the North London club are now said to be pursuing other targets in that area of the field.

Man United have only made one signing during this summer's transfer window, with Tyrell Malacia arriving from Feyenoord, and the Netherlands international could make his debut against Liverpool on Tuesday.

The 20-time English champions are also attempting to sign Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong and Ajax's Lisandro Martinez, but it is understood that both deals still have a long way to go before being completed. body check tags ::
