Manchester United to battle Manchester City for Bruno Guimaraes?

Manchester United could battle Manchester City for Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes this summer, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly ready to battle Manchester City for the signature of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes during this summer's transfer window.

The 26-year-old's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with many of the leading clubs in world football believed to be admirers of the Brazil international.

Guimaraes arrived at St James' Park from Lyon in January 2022, and he has represented the Magpies on 97 occasions, scoring 13 goals and registering 13 assists in the process.

The midfielder has again been in strong form this season, scoring three goals and registering seven assists in 40 appearances in all competitions.

Newcastle are down in 10th position in the Premier League table, though, while they were knocked out of the FA Cup by Man City on Saturday.

Eddie Howe's side were also unable to make it through the group stage of the Champions League, so it has been an underwhelming 2023-24 after the team's success last term.

Guimaraes has another four years left to run on his contract and is not believed to have any immediate plans to seek a transfer despite the speculation surrounding his future.

However, Man City continue to be credited with an interest in the South American, and according to AS, Man United are also a leading contender for his signature.

The report claims that Dan Ashworth, who is preparing to arrive at Man United as their new sporting director after leaving Newcastle, is pushing for the Red Devils to move for Guimaraes.

Chelsea and Liverpool are also believed to be keeping a close eye on his situation at St James' Park ahead of a potential summer departure.

Man United are expected to sign at least one central midfielder during the summer market, as both Casemiro and Christian Eriksen could potentially move on.

The club are also unlikely to sign Sofyan Amrabat on a permanent basis from Fiorentina, with the Morocco international struggling to make an impression during his loan spell this term.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are also thought to be European admirers of Guimaraes, although Newcastle, who will return to action at home to West Ham United after the international break, are believed to value him in excess of £100m. body check tags ::
