Manchester United are reportedly prepared to extend Michael Carrick's contract with the club.
Under the terms of the 33-year-old's current deal, which expires next summer, United retain the right to extend it by a further 12 months should they want to.
Although discussions between the club and player are yet to take place, manager Louis van Gaal has indicated that he would like to retain Carrick's services for another season, according to The Sun.
Carrick, who has not played yet this campaign because of an ankle complaint, joined the Red Devils from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006.
