Manchester United are reportedly preparing to hold a meeting with the representatives of Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar with the view to discussing a move to Old Trafford.

The 27-year-old's contract at San Siro is due to expire at the end of June, meaning that he is currently free to discuss moving to a foreign club on a free transfer this summer.

Inter remain hopeful of convincing the Slovakia international to sign a new contract, but the Italian giants have thus far been unsuccessful in their attempts.

Skriniar has again been a vital player for Inter this term, making 23 appearances in all competitions, including 17 outings in Italy's top flight.

However, he is believed to be given serious consideration to switching clubs this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain thought to be at the head of the queue for his signature.

According to Media Foot, Man United will soon hold a meeting with Skriniar's agents to discuss a possible switch to Manchester in 2023.

The report claims that the Red Devils want to 'try their luck' by moving for the Slovakian, and they are hopeful of 'seducing' him to Old Trafford.

Skriniar made the move to Inter from Sampdoria in 2017, and he has represented the Milan giants on 238 occasions in all competitions, contributing 11 goals and four assists in the process.

Man United are currently well-stocked in the middle of their defence, with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire all options for head coach Erik ten Hag.

Luke Shaw has also been used as a centre-back in recent matches, increasing the options available for the 20-time English champions in that area of the field.

Varane and Martinez have been the preferred partnership this season, though, with Maguire dropping down the pecking order, and there have been claims that the club captain could leave this year.

Axel Tuanzebe and Phil Jones are also set to leave Old Trafford in 2023, so there could be room in the budget to bring in another centre-back this summer.

Man United are not believed to view defence as a priority position at this stage, but they do not want to pass on the opportunity to potentially sign one of the leading centre-backs in world football on a free transfer.

Skriniar has captained Inter in their two Serie A matches this year, wearing the armband for the 1-0 victory over Napoli on January 4 and 2-2 draw with Monza on January 7. body check tags ::
