Manchester United are reportedly tracking Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier as one of two goalkeeper targets.

Manchester United have reportedly earmarked Leeds United shot-stopper Illan Meslier as one of two goalkeeper targets ahead of the January transfer window.

Andre Onana has established himself as Man United's number-one goalkeeper after he joined the club from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023.

The Cameroon international has featured in all of Man United's 22 matches across the Premier League and Europa League, highlighting his importance to the side.

As a result, Onana's deputy Altay Bayindir has had to settle for limited game time since he completed a move from Fenerbahce on September 1.

Bayindir has been restricted to three appearances in the EFL Cup, including an unconvincing display in Thursday's 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Man United set to reignite Meslier pursuit

Man United are believed to be keen to sign a new second-choice shot-stopper despite spending £4.3m to sign Bayindir in the 2023 summer transfer window.

According to The Sun, the Red Devils are set to revive their interest in Meslier after identifying the Frenchman as one of two goalkeeper targets.

Man United showed a keen interest in Meslier a couple of years ago, but they ultimately cooled their pursuit due to the goalkeeper's loss of form in Leeds' relegation campaign in 2022-23.

However, Man United goalkeeper scout Tony Coton remains an admirer of Meslier and has been keeping a close eye on his performances for Daniel Farke's side.

Meslier has kept 12 clean sheets in 22 Championship appearances this season - only Sheffield United's Michael Cooper has recorded more shutouts in the second tier.

Who else are Man United tracking?

In addition to Meslier, the Red Devils are believed to be monitoring Botafogo's goalkeeper John, who only joined his current employers from Santos in January.

The 28-year-old played a key role in Botafogo's recent Brasileiro title success, recording 16 shutouts in 34 league appearances.

John also kept three clean sheets in 10 appearances in Botafogo's Copa Libertadores campaign, helping the club win the illustrious trophy for the first time in their history.

The shot-stopper has spent the majority of his club career in Brazil, apart from a short loan spell with Real Valladolid in the first half of the 2023-24 season.

Man United are willing to wait until the summer to sign a new goalkeeper, but they could move their pursuit to the January window if Bayindir attracts interest from elsewhere. body check tags ::
