Manchester United are reportedly interested in re-signing forward Memphis Depay from Barcelona this summer.
After three-and-a-half years with Lyon, the 28-year-old moved to Barca on a free transfer last summer, with former head coach Ronald Koeman a key figure behind his switch to Camp Nou.
Depay was a first-team regular for the first half of last season, but the sacking of Koeman – who has since been replaced by Xavi – the recruitment of new players and a number of injuries saw the Dutchman's game time reduced in 2022.
The forward was still able to score 13 goals and provide two assists in 37 appearances across all competitions last season, including 12 strikes in 27 La Liga games.
However, Depay's long-term future has come into question this summer, with one report claiming that the Catalan giants have placed the forward on the transfer list following the arrival of Robert Lewandowski.
According to journalist Gerard Romero, via Twich, the prospect of Depay returning to Old Trafford "has always been of interest" to Man United.
Romero also claims that Barca have asked for some of their promotional images of Depay on their pre-season tour of the USA to be removed as they are confident that they will offload the forward this summer.
Furthermore, Romero adds that Lewandowski is interested in moving into Depay's current house should the Dutchman leave the Catalan club.
Depay, who has just 12 months remaining on his contract, would allegedly be happy to remain at Barca this summer and would only consider leaving if "an important club" persuaded him to move on.
Man United are not the only Premier League team who have been linked with Depay, as one report claims that Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a €17m (£14.5m) bid for the forward.
Depay could, however, struggle for regular first-team appearances in North London as Antonio Conte already has the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevski and summer signing Richarlison at his disposal.
Man United, meanwhile, are believed to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements even though moves for defender Lisandro Martinez and midfielder Frenkie de Jong have taken priority so far this summer.
Edinson Cavani has now left Old Trafford upon the expiration of his contract, while the long-term futures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Anthony Martial are believed to be uncertain.
Depay spent two-and-a-half years at Man United between the summer of 2015 and January 2017, but endured a frustrating time at Old Trafford and recorded only seven goals and six assists in 53 games across all competitions.
United are also thought to be interested in signing Ajax winger Antony, while one recent report claims that they are ready to explore the possibility of signing Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard. body check tags ::
