Manchester United are reportedly keen to offload Chris Smalling on a permanent deal this summer.
The centre-back was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford for the 2019-20 campaign and was subsequently allowed to join Roma on a season-long loan.
The 30-year-old has impressed for the Italian outfit, making 28 appearances in all competitions, leading to suggestions that he could join the Serie A giants permanently this summer.
Paulo Fonseca's side will reportedly be unable to afford to sign the Englishman ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, but according to the Evening Standard, United are still hoping to move the defender on.
The report claims that the 20-time English champions are looking to raise additional funds due to the financial problems caused by the coronavirus pandemic and have identified Smalling as a potential outgoing.
Roma are also believed to be exploring the possibility of taking the former Fulham youngster, who is out of contract at Old Trafford in June 2022, on another season-long loan.
