Manchester United would reportedly have to pay Antonio Rudiger a £25m signing-on fee in order to bring the centre-back to Old Trafford on a free transfer.
The Germany international's contract at Chelsea is due to expire at the end of June, and he could be on the way out of Stamford Bridge due to the club's off-the-field problems.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are among the clubs to be linked with the defender, while there is believed to be firm interest from the Premier League in the shape of Man United.
However, according to journalist Duncan Castles, Rudiger's representatives have demanded that a £25m signing-on fee is paid in order to secure the services of their client.
Castles claims that the centre-back is also looking for a contract which would put him in line with the highest-paid players in world football.
Rudiger has been a vital player for Chelsea during the 2021-22 campaign, making 42 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals and four assists in the process.
The Blues are believed to have agreed a new deal with the 29-year-old before sanctions were placed on club owner Roman Abramovich. body check tags ::
