Manchester United are reportedly confident of signing Bayern Munich attacking midfielder Toni Kroos before the start of next season.
Kroos, who is in the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena, has yet to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga champions.
Failure to agree terms with the 24-year-old could see Bayern opt to sell the German international in the summer rather than let him go for free in 12 months' time, according to ESPN.
Kroos could be the first of a number of high-profile arrivals at Old Trafford following the appointment of Louis van Gaal as the club's new manager.
Van Gaal is understood to have around £150m to spend on new players in the next few months.
