Manchester United have announced the signing of Uruguayan defender Guillermo Varela for an undisclosed fee.
The 20-year-old, who was expected to complete his move to Old Trafford this week after confirming that he was due to have a medical, has become new manager David Moyes's first signing of the summer.
The defender, who has moved from Atletico Penarol, first impressed the Premier League champions towards the end of last season during a trial, which was conducted during Sir Alex Ferguson's tenure.
Varela has since joined up with the Uruguayan Under-20 squad for the FIFA U20 World Championships in Turkey.
