Manchester United are reportedly weighing up a move for Schalke 04 defender Benedikt Howedes when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Germany international, who featured in all seven of his national side's games at the World Cup, is said to be attracting the interest of Louis van Gaal due to his versatility of being able to play at both left-back and in the heart of defence.
United have sent scouts to run the rule over Howedes, according to Goal.com, although he would set the Premier League outfit back around £14m should a move be agreed.
Having come through Schalke's academy setup, the 26-year-old has proved to be an ever-present for the Royal Blues, also attracting the interest of Arsenal and Juventus among others in recent times.
