Manchester United are reportedly close to sealing a £16m deal for Everton left-back Leighton Baines.
The 27-year-old, who has been one of the Premier League's stand-out performers in the last couple of seasons, has been targeted by Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Scot sees the England international as an ideal replacement for Patrice Evra, according to the Daily Star.
The deal for Baines will see the Toffees net a £12m down-payment, with an extra £4m in add-ons.
Ferguson is hoping to secure his signature before the squad jets out on their pre-season tours of South Africa and China.
Baines has established himself as an influential figure in David Moyes's defence since his £6m move from Wigan Athletic in 2007.
