Borussia Dortmund could reportedly be priced out of a permanent move for Manchester United attacker Jadon Sancho during this summer's transfer window.
The 24-year-old returned to BVB on loan in January, and he has featured 11 times for the club in the second half of the season, scoring twice and registering two assists.
Dortmund are believed to be determined to re-sign Sancho on a permanent basis, but Man United's asking price for the Englishman is allegedly a problem for the Bundesliga giants.
According to Sky Deutschland, the Red Devils are not prepared to let the ex-Manchester City youngster leave Old Trafford this summer for anything under €40m (£34.3m).
The report claims that Dortmund have not given up hope of keeping hold of Sancho, but Man United's asking price has made a permanent return to the Bundesliga team unlikely this summer.
Man United have big Sancho decision to make this summer
Sancho only made three appearances for Man United in the first half of the 2023-24 campaign, with the forward falling-out with head coach Erik ten Hag at the start of September.
The Englishman had been a substitute in the team's opening three games of the current Premier League season before being left out altogether against Arsenal at the start of September.
Ten Hag said that Sancho's performances in training, which had been below the required standard in the eyes of his manager, had seen him left out of the clash at the Emirates Stadium.
However, Sancho took to social media to insist that was not the case, claiming that he had been made "a scapegoat", and he refused to apologise to his head coach for effectively calling him a liar.
Ten Hag is reportedly set to stay as Man United boss this summer despite the team's struggles this term, which could make it difficult for Sancho to reignite his career at Old Trafford.
Sancho to be handed a lifeline by the incoming Wilcox?
However, it has been suggested that the forward could be handed a lifeline by Jason Wilcox, should the 53-year-old arrive at Man United from Southampton in the near future.
Wilcox is wanted by the Red Devils as their new technical director, and he is thought to have a strong relationship with Sancho, having managed the player at Under-18s level for Manchester City.
A recent report claimed that Wilcox could push for Sancho to be brought back into the squad, although an apology to Ten Hag would likely still be required.
The Englishman has found it difficult to make his mark for Man United since arriving from Dortmund in the summer of 2021, only managing 12 goals and six assists in 82 appearances in all competitions.
