Manchester United are reportedly considering triggering Jesse Lingard's one-year contract extension at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old is yet to play a minute in the 2020-21 Premier League campaign and only has a year left to run on his existing deal with the Red Devils.
With Lingard restricted to appearances in the EFL Cup this term, recent reports have claimed that Celtic and Rangers could potentially swoop for the England international if he opts to leave.
However, according to the Daily Star, United are set to extend Lingard's contract by another year until the summer of 2022, despite the midfielder's lack of game time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The report claims that United still expect Lingard to move on, but they are determined to recoup a fee for him rather than see the Englishman walk away for free when his deal runs out.
Lingard has risen through the ranks at Old Trafford and boasts a total of 33 goals in 209 appearances for the 20-time English champions since his debut in 2014.
