Manchester United are reportedly ready to hold further contract discussions with striker Mason Greenwood.

After the sale of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan, Greenwood is now acting as backup to Marcus Rashford, despite still being just 17 years of age

However, there is a desire from both sides to agree a deal which would come into effect on October 1 - Greenwood's birthday.

According to The Independent, United will make an effort to advance negotiations after the academy graduate scored his first senior goal against Astana on Thursday night.

The youngster's strike in the second half proved to be the difference as a much-changed team edged out their Kazakh opponents by a 1-0 scoreline.

Greenwood has also made four substitute outings in the Premier League this season.
