Manchester United are reportedly willing to include Mason Greenwood as part of a potential deal to sign Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer in the summer.
The 22-year-old, who is currently on loan at Spanish side Getafe, has not featured for the Red Devils since January 2022, when he was arrested and charged with attempted rape and assault.
While those charges were dropped 13 months later, United opted against reintegrating the attacker back into the side and instead sent him out on loan to the La Liga outfit at the start of this season.
Greenwood has featured in 26 of Getafe's 31 league games this term and has scored eight goals and provided five assists across all competitions since arriving in Madrid.
While United's new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has not ruled out the possibility of Greenwood playing for the club again, there still remains the possibility that they could sell him in the summer if they receive a suitable offer.
Bremer to bolster Man United's defence next season?
Juventus have shown interest in the attacker, and according to Gazzetta dello Sport, United are prepared to use the 22-year-old striker as part of a deal to bring in Juve's central defender Gleison Bremer.
The report adds that the Red Devils have moved ahead of other clubs targeting the Brazilian defender due to the potential swap deal involving Greenwood.
It is understood that Bremer has a £43m release clause in his contract with I Bianconeri, which is a similar price to the one that United are expected to ask for their academy graduate.
Given Juventus's financial challenges at present, a swap deal for the attacker could indeed be preferable for the Serie A giants.
United planning major summer overhaul
Man Utd are currently navigating their own Financial Fair Play concerns, and Greenwood's status as an academy product holds particular value, as any deal involving the striker could potentially allow the club to reinvest 100% of the proceeds.
The Red Devils are expected to undergo a major overhaul in the summer, and among the players believed to be high up on the list to join Greenwood on their way out of Old Trafford are the on-loan due of Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek.
Antony, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Casemiro and Anthony Martial have also been linked with moves away from Manchester in the lead-up to the summer transfer market.
In light of Greenwood and Martial's potential departures, United may look to bring in a new striker to support Rasmus Hojlund at the top end of the pitch, and a recent report suggested that Brentford's Ivan Toney has emerged as a possible option.
The Bees attacker has expressed his desire to play at the highest level of European competition, and Brentford manager Thomas Frank conceded in February that he expects the England international to move on at the end of this season. body check tags ::
