Manchester United are reportedly closing in on the signature of Tottenham Hotspur defender Sergio Reguilon.
The Red Devils entered the market for a new left-back after being hit with the news that Luke Shaw was facing a period on the sidelines with a muscular problem.
Back-up left-back Tyrell Malacia is also out with a muscular issue of his own, while Brandon Williams was allowed to join Ipswich Town on loan last week.
Diogo Dalot played in that position against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and will remain an option for head coach Erik ten Hag, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka seemingly nailing down the right-back spot.
However, the 20-time champions have been working to bring in a specialist in that position, with Chelsea's Marc Cucurella believed to have emerged as the preferred option.
Cucurella played the full 90 minutes of Chelsea's EFL Cup clash with AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday evening, though, which is thought to have impacted his chances of moving on.
Barcelona's Marcos Alonso was also believed to be a target before it became clear that the Spain international would be remaining at Camp Nou, having now been registered to play in La Liga.
Reguilon's name was also mentioned among the list of targets, and according to The Athletic, the Tottenham defender is now close to making the move to Old Trafford.
The report claims that the 26-year-old has been given permission to travel to Manchester to undergo a medical ahead of joining Ten Hag's side on loan.
Reguilon made the move to Tottenham from Real Madrid in the summer of 2020, and he has represented the North London club on 67 occasions in all competitions.
The full-back spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, featuring 12 times for the club in all competitions.
The six-time Spain international, who has another two years left to run on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, is yet to represent Spurs this season amid the speculation surrounding his future.
At this stage, it is unclear whether the loan will expire in January, with Shaw expected to be fit by October.
Reguilon's arrival could also open the door for Alvaro Fernandez to leave on loan, with a number of clubs being linked with Man United's 20-year-old full-back. body check tags ::
