Manchester United have reportedly scouted Southampton's young midfielder Jake Hesketh on numerous occasions.
It is believed that manager Louis van Gaal has ordered his scouting team to identify the country's best young players at other clubs, having been left disappointed by the overall standard of United's academy.
While they are yet to make contact with the Saints regarding Hesketh's availability, the 19-year-old is highly regarded by United, according to the Daily Mail.
The report adds that Hesketh has 18 months left to run on his deal at the St Mary's Stadium, although Southampton would be due compensation if he allowed that to run down before moving on.
The attack-minded player has made two appearances for the senior side, one of which came against the Red Devils.
