Manchester United have reportedly begun negotiations over a potential move for Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Yann Sommer.
David de Gea's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and although United have the option to extend his deal by an additional year, they could allow the Spaniard to leave for free next summer.
They have been on the lookout for potential replacements, and Sommer appears to be under consideration after being linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer, before the Red Devils signed Martin Dubravka on loan from Newcastle United.
According to The Mirror, United still keen to sign the Gladbach goalkeeper and talks have already begun over a possible transfer.
The Switzerland international has made 335 appearances for the German club, but with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Gladbach may be prepared to sell him when the transfer window reopens in January.
Sommer is currently representing Switzerland at the World Cup where he started the first two games, but he sat out the final group match against Serbia through illness.
The 33-year-old could return to the side to feature in Tuesday's last-16 clash with Portugal. body check tags ::
