Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount has reportedly arrived at Manchester United's training ground as he prepares to undergo his medical with the Red Devils.

The 24-year-old has long been the subject of interest from Erik ten Hag's side, and his contract with Chelsea now has just 12 months left to run.

In spite of the fact that Mount could be available on a free transfer next summer, Chelsea have been digging their heels in over a fee and rejected Man United's opening two bids.

The Red Devils subsequently put a final offer on the table of £55m plus £5m in performance-related add-ons, which was also initially turned down by their London counterparts.

Man United signalled that they would not go any higher, but their third bid remained valid while they began to consider potential alternatives.

However, Chelsea ultimately relented and accepted Man United's third offer for Mount, who has rejected the chance to sign a new deal with his boyhood club and is believed to be keen on a move to Old Trafford.

Now, The Mirror reports that Mount has made his way to Man United's Carrington training complex and will undergo his medical with the 20-time English champions imminently.

If all goes to plan, Mount's arrival at Old Trafford could be made official this week, as he prepares to become Man United's first arrival of the summer transfer window.

Mount's switch to Manchester will bring an end to his 18-year association with Chelsea, whom he has represented 195 occasions following loan spells with Derby County and Vitesse.

The England international has scored 33 goals and set up 37 more in 195 appearances for the Blues in that time, winning the Champions League, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup in the process.

However, a troublesome 2022-23 season saw Mount amass just three goals and six assists from 35 games, and he missed the final few weeks of the season due to a pelvic injury.

Liverpool were originally regarded as the favourites for Mount's signature, but the Reds withdrew their interest and have instead brought Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai to Anfield.

Once Mount's arrival is confirmed, Man United are expected to prioritise either a new goalkeeper or new striker, although it has been claimed that they only have as much as £65m to spend on a number nine.

Targets such as Harry Kane, Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani are therefore seemingly off limits, and Man United are said to have failed with a £30m opening bid for Atalanta BC's Rasmus Hojlund.

Meanwhile, David de Gea has now officially become a free agent after his contract expired at the end of June, and the Red Devils are being linked with moves for either Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp or Inter Milan's Andre Onana as a replacement if contract talks with the Spaniard lead to nowhere. body check tags ::
