Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel is reportedly against signing for Manchester United on loan during the January transfer window.
Despite failing to score a senior goal during his early appearances with Rennes, Bayern were still prepared to pay €28.5m for the teenager back in July 2022.
Since then, and with Tel not due to turn 19 years of age until April, he has largely been used off the substitutes' bench, yet on a regular basis.
A total of six starts and 40 substitute outings have been made in all competitions, with Tel already having an outstanding 12 goals to his name.
As it stands, though, the France Under-21 international is very much acting as backup to Harry Kane, leaving question marks over his development at the Allianz Arena.
During 2023-24 under Thomas Tuchel, just one start and 14 substitute appearances have been made in the Bundesliga and Champions League, yet Tel still had five strikes and three assists.
That has seemingly led to a number of Premier League teams monitoring the progression of the prospect in the hope that Bayern may be open to a deal of some sorts.
Given Tel's potential, a loan switch in January to receive regular game time from the starting lineup appeared a possible resolution for all parties.
However, according to Sky Sport Deutschland reporter Florian Plettenberg, the likes of Man United will be rejected at the midway point of the campaign.
Plettenberg says that Man United are one of many clubs to enquire whether a loan deal was a realistic possibility, the Red Devils in particular struggling for a centre-forward who can score goals.
Instead, Plettenburg indicates that Tel is adamant that he would prefer to stay at Bayern due to the trust that he has with Tuchel that more minutes will eventually arrive.
Furthermore, Tel feels like he is benefitting from the know-how of Kane, who has a remarkable 22 goals and seven assists in Germany's top flight and the Champions League since his arrival from Tottenham Hotspur.
United and Erik ten Hag could get to see Tel first-hand on Tuesday night when Bayern make the trip to Old Trafford to face them in Europe, the English giants requiring all three points to have a chance of progressing through to the last 16.
