AC Milan are reportedly hoping to sign Kevin Strootman ahead of Premier League outfit Manchester United.
The Dutch international's current club PSV Eindhoven are hoping to keep hold of the midfielder until next summer.
However, Milan are keen to secure his services during the January transfer window and are planning to submit an offer in the region of £12m, according to reports in Italy.
Speculation has also claimed that the Red and Blacks are even willing to sell Kevin-Prince Boateng to Bayern Munich in order to fund Strootman's arrival.
Any move that Milan make could force United manager Sir Alex Ferguson into submitting a bid.
