David Moyes rules out striker purchase in January

David Moyes insists that Manchester United have plenty of striking options and rules out buying a new forward in the January transfer window.

David Moyes has insisted that Manchester United are well equipped in the striker department and are not in the market for a new forward in January.

The Red Devils manager is expected to be busy when the transfer window reopens, having only recruited Marouane Fellaini from his former club Everton in the summer.

The Premier League champions are currently seventh in the table, five points off a top-four position, but Moyes has dismissed speculation that United will sign a new frontman in the New Year to ensure that they at least qualify for the Champions League.

"I would not say we are in desperate need of an out-and-out centre-forward," he told reporters. "We have got Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Chicharito [Javier Hernandez], Danny Welbeck. Shinji [Kagawa] can play in behind as well, we are covered.

"It is easy for people to throw names up, but when they look at it more closely you might say it wasn't that good a suggestion."

United have been credited with an interest in Monaco's apparently unsettled striker Radamel Falcao, while prolific Atletico Madrid marksman Diego Costa, who has scored 19 times in 16 La Liga games this term, is also rumoured to be a target.
