Brazilian giants Palmeiras have reportedly expressed their interest in signing Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani.

The 34-year-old's long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain, with his current contract set to expire next summer.

According to Mercado da Bola, Palmeiras have a 'strategy' to lure the Uruguayan back to South America and are prepare to enter negotiations with the striker in January ahead of a proposed free transfer in July.

The report adds that the 10-time Brasileiro champions are set to announce Leila Pereira as the club's new president in December, and she is willing to spend big on Cavani's wages.

La Liga rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with Cavani, while Argentinian outfit Boca Juniors are another club monitoring his situation.

Cavani has made 47 appearances across all competitions for Man United, scoring 18 goals and providing six assists. body check tags ::
