Paris Saint-Germain star Lionel Messi has attracted interest from Premier League clubs, according to a report.

The legendary 35-year-old is due to end his two-year spell at the Parc des Princes when his contract expires at the end of next month.

Messi has been strongly linked with a sensational return to Barcelona, with head coach Xavi recently revealing that he has held talks with the World Cup winner over a summer switch to Camp Nou.

The seven-time Ballon d'or winner was forced to leave the Catalan giants in 2021 upon the expiration of his contract due to the club's well-documented financial troubles.

Messi is believed to be keen to return to Barcelona this summer, but the La Liga champions will be required to generate funds from player sales before attempting to sign the Argentine, who would also have to take a significant pay-cut.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia including Al-Hilal and MLS outfit Inter Miami have also been credited with an interest in signing Messi, but there could soon be another option on the table for PSG's No.30.

According to Spanish news outlet Ole, Premier League clubs have entered the race for Messi's signature, with the forward set to make a decision on his future in the "next few days".

Premier League champions Manchester City, managed by former Barca boss Pep Guardiola, would presumably be one of those clubs who would consider the prospect of luring Messi to the English top flight.

Manchester United, meanwhile, could look to make a statement signing this summer should a takeover of the club be completed before the 2023-24 campaign begins.

Qatari investor Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is in the running to purchase the Red Devils from the Glazer family and he is allegedly open to pursuing a move for Neymar should he successfully complete a takeover, and a potential move for Messi could also be considered.

Big spenders Chelsea, who appointed Argentine Mauricio Pochettino as their new head coach on Wednesday, may also ponder a summer deal to sign Messi, although a lack of European football could hinder their chances.

Messi, who has recorded 32 goals and 35 assists in 74 games for PSG, could play his final game for the Ligue 1 champions when they play host to Clermont in their last match of the season on Saturday evening.

The forward is then due to join up with the Argentina squad for international friendlies against Australia and Indonesia in the middle of next month. body check tags ::
