Real Madrid were reportedly planning to offer €80m (£71m) for Kai Havertz during this summer's transfer window before the coronavirus pandemic changed their plans.
The 20-year-old has been in fine form for Bayer Leverkusen since the Bundesliga returned last month and has now scored 15 times in 38 appearances for his German club this season.
Manchester United continue to be linked with the Germany international, who would allegedly be open to joining Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side this summer.
According to Bild, Madrid had planned on launching an €80m (£71m) offer for Havertz this summer and were prepared to allow the attacker to remain at the BayArena for another season.
However, the report claims that the financial impact of the coronavirus outbreak means that Zinedine Zidane's side will no longer be able to afford to sign the youngster ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.
Bayern Munich and Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in German.
