Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley reportedly turned down the chance to join Aston Villa upon discovering that Everton wanted him.
The 25-year-old was linked with a deadline-day move away from Old Trafford but will now stay with the Red Devils after failing to secure an exit.
According to the Daily Mail, Cleverley was poised to undergo his Villa medical ahead of a £7m move, but pulled out of the deal when the Toffees made their interest known.
However, Everton's offer of £5m was dismissed by United and the England midfielder now looks likely to remain in Manchester until January at least.
Cleverley has made one Premier League appearance for Manchester United this season.
