Manchester United have reportedly been told that it will take a club-record transfer fee to land Barcelona's Cesc Fabregas.
The Barca midfielder has been a target for United throughout the summer and the the Red Devils are prepared to make a £31m offer for the Spain international, according to The Mirror.
The fee surpasses the £30.8m United paid Tottenham Hotspur for Dimitar Berbatov in 2008 and Fabregas is said to be privately keen on a move back to the Premier League.
La Blaugrana coach Tito Vilanova recently claimed that the former Arsenal man wants to stay at Camp Nou, despite United's interest.
