Liverpool are reportedly preparing January moves for Aston Villa pair Ron Vlaar and Fabian Delph.
The duo are both out of contract at the end of the season and, as it stands, neither is close to penning a fresh deal at Villa Park.
Manchester United have also been strongly linked with a move for Vlaar, but Liverpool lead the race, according to the Daily Star.
Delph, meanwhile, who has broken into the England setup this season, is said to be another target for the Reds, but Tottenham Hotspur and Everton also hold an interest.
Liverpool spent £117m in the summer, but are expected to strengthen again in January following a start to the season which has left them ninth in the table.
