Manchester United are reportedly preparing a surprise swoop for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos in the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old has been with Los Blancos since 2005, helping the capital outfit win three league titles, two Copa del Reys and the Champions League.
Ramos has a contract at the Bernabeu until 2017, but it is understood that talks over a new deal will soon start.
According to the Daily Star, United are preparing to better the wages offered by Real Madrid and will have no problem matching the player's valuation.
Despite Ramos's status as a cult hero at the club, it has been suggested in some quarters that he wants to sample a different league before retiring.
