Talks have begun between Manchester United and Roma over the potential sale of Kevin Strootman, according to reports.
Strootman played under Louis van Gaal when the Old Trafford boss was in charge of the Dutch national team, although the Roma midfielder's World Cup dream was cruelly shattered by a cruciate ligament injury suffered in March.
The 24-year-old is close to a return to fitness and The Telegraph has claims that talks between the two sides have begun over a transfer which would take place in January.
Manchester United have already spent in excess in £140m on transfers this summer, but Van Gaal is keen to add more players to his squad after a side that have been unable to win any of their first four games this season.
