Manchester United defender Chris Smalling will reportedly be offered the chance to extend his contract as Jose Mourinho does not want to lose the defender on a free transfer.
Smalling, a £10m signing from Fulham in 2010, is into the final year of his Old Trafford deal and is allowed to open talks with foreign clubs from January.
The England international has previously hinted that he intends to stay on at United beyond the end of next summer, though, and the Daily Star claims that a new contract will be handed to him at some point in the coming weeks.
Arsenal are said to be long-term admirers of the London-born ace, who has started United's last five matches, including Saturday's 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The Red Devils missed out on a number of defensive targets in the summer, but separate reports suggest that they could move for a new centre-back when the transfer window reopens in three months' time.
