Paul Pogba's agent Mino Raiola reportedly cancelled a meeting with Manchester United that was arranged to discuss a new deal for the midfielder.
The France international, named in the PFA Team of the Year on Thursday, is believed to be high on Real Madrid's list of transfer targets.
Pogba admitted last month that he would love to join the Spanish giants, but there had been hope behind the scenes at Old Trafford that he could be persuaded to sign a new contract, keeping him at the club for at least another year before then being sold on.
According to The Sun, however, the World Cup winner is edging closer to the exit door as Raiola pulled the plug on talks with United due to his client's determination to secure a move away.
The same report suggests that the other players in the Red Devils' squad fear that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cannot handle Pogba's ego, but there had been no immediate plans to cash in on him.
That stance may change if there is no movement on talks over fresh terms as he is due to become a free agent in 2021, though United are believed to have the option of an automatic 12-month extension.
