Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing German defender Mats Hummels in the summer.
The Borussia Dortmund centre-back has been on United's radar for some time as they look for long-term replacements for Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic.
According to The Express, they will face stiff competition from rivals Manchester City.
On top of that, the player's preferred destination would be Barcelona, who have also been monitoring the situation.
Hummels's father recently played down speculation linking his son with a move to Spain, but admitted that joining one of Europe's top clubs is on the agenda.
The 24-year-old is currently out injured with an ankle problem.
