Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid have reportedly held discussions over a possible deal for Christian Eriksen.
The Danish playmaker's future has been uncertain since he admitted in June that he is interested in a move away from North London.
Real Madrid hold a long-term interest in Eriksen, but they apparently could not reach an agreement with Spurs on a fee and will gamble on signing him as a free agent next summer.
There has also been talk of a possible switch to Premier League rivals Manchester United but, according to The Telegraph, Atletico are the side best positioned to sign the 27-year-old.
Atleti are supposedly waiting until after Thursday's transfer deadline for English clubs before making a formal offer in the hope that Eriksen's price may drop, with Spurs potentially being forced to cash in on a player with 11 months to run on his deal.
James Rodriguez is the other big-name star on Los Rojiblancos' radar, the report suggests, despite the Colombian being tied down to rivals Real.
