Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have plans to recruit at least one new striker in the summer transfer window – a year on from the departure of Harry Kane.
After scoring a club-record 280 goals in 435 appearances over a 14-year period as a Spurs player, Kane decided to seeks pastures new last summer and join German giants Bayern Munich for a Bundesliga-record €100m.
The 30-year-old has since made an impressive start to life in Bavaria, contributing with 37 goals and 12 assists in just 36 appearances across all competitions, although the striker is on course to end the campaign without domestic silverware – Bayern trail Bayer Leverkusen by 13 points in the Bundesliga.
Meanwhile, Tottenham have relied on new club captain Son Heung-min and Richarlison for the bulk of their goals this season, with the former netting 15 times and the latter chipping in with 11 goals across all tournaments.
However, Son and Richarlison are the only two players in Ange Postecoglou's squad who have reached double figures for goals this season, with Dejan Kulusevski next on the list with six.
Tottenham eyeing summer move for Santiago Gimenez?
As a result, CaughtOffside claims that Tottenham are keen to strengthen their forward line with at least one 'top-level' striker this summer, and qualification for next season's Champions League would boost their hopes of landing one of their desired targets.
The report adds that Feyenoord talisman Santiago Gimenez has been identified as a primary target by Spurs, who have already made contact with the Dutch club to discuss his availability.
Juventus' Dusan Vlahovic, Lille's Jonathan David, Brentford's Ivan Toney, Brighton & Hove Albion's Evan Ferguson and Genoa's Albert Gudmundsson are all said to be alternatives on Tottenham's shortlist.
However, it is claimed that the North Londoners are confident that they will win the race for the signature of Mexico international Gimenez, as talks between both parties are 'intensifying'.
Gimenez joined Feyenoord from Mexican club Cruz Azul in the summer of 2022 and has since established himself as one of the most prolific strikers in Dutch football, scoring 47 goals in 81 appearances across all competitions.
The 22-year-old scored 28 times in 50 games during his debut campaign at the club in 2022-23, and he has since recorded 24 goals in 36 matches so far this season, including 21 strikes in 26 Eredivisie outings.
Gimenez scored 19 goals in his first 17 Eredivisie appearances this term, but since the turn of the year, he has experienced a dry spell in front of goal, netting only twice across his last nine top-flight games.
Nevertheless, Gimenez has attracted interest from a host of Premier League clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, with Spurs set to battle with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, West Ham United and Fulham for the striker's signature.
Gimenez is believed to be valued by Feyenoord between £30m and £40m, and his contract with the Dutch club runs until June 2027. body check tags ::
