Tottenham are ready to make Luka Modric their highest-paid player in an attempt to stave off interest from Manchester United and Chelsea, according to Metro.
The Croatian playmaker is currently being courted by both Andre Villas-Boas and Sir Alex Ferguson, but Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has continually refused to sell his star asset.
The club's strict wage structure, however, could prove a stumbling block, with the 26-year-old said to be aware he could earn more than the £100,000-a-week currently offered by Spurs.
Tottenham sit third in the Premier League after a solid start to the season.
