Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly set to rival Arsenal for the signature of Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.
The Belgian is currently in his second season with the Toffees after arriving from Lille for a reported £33.5m in the summer of 2022.
Onana quickly established himself in the Everton side, starting 29 of his 33 Premier League appearances during his first season with the Merseyside club.
The Belgium international has gone on to feature in 28 top-flight games in the current campaign, chipping in with two goals from his midfield position.
However, Onana has recently lost his place in the Everton lineup, having failed to start the last four matches since being withdrawn at half-time of the 6-0 defeat to Chelsea last month.
Spurs join race for Onana
Onana is still believed to be an important player in Sean Dyche's squad, but there is a possibility that he could depart Goodison Park this summer, with several clubs showing an interest in the 22-year-old.
A recent report claimed that Arsenal were leading the race to sign Onana alongside Bayern Munich and Newcastle United.
Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona are also said to be among his admirers, with Everton looking to receive up to £60m to part ways with the Belgian.
According to Caught Offside, Tottenham are now set to join a congested race to sign the Everton midfielder ahead of the 2024-25 season.
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is seemingly keen to bring in reinforcements, having suggested that there will be several departures this summer.
Tottenham view Onana as Hojbjerg replacement
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is among the contingent heading towards the exit door after failing to force his way into Postecoglou's starting lineup.
The Denmark international has started just seven Premier League games this season, with Postecoglou preferring to utilise Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma.
Tottenham have identified Onana as a potential replacement for Hojbjerg, and they are looking to raise £20m from the Dane's sale to help fund their pursuit of the Everton man.
Atletico Madrid are long-term admirers of Hojbjerg, while there is also said to be interest from AC Milan, Napoli and Juventus. body check tags ::
