Sunderland have completed the signing of goalkeeper Nathan Bishop from Manchester United.
The 23-year-old joins the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee, putting pen to paper on a three-year deal that will keep him at the Stadium of Light until 2026.
Bishop was included in Man United's pre-season squad for their tour of the United States this summer, making headlines for a challenge on Wrexham's Paul Mullin which left the striker with a punctured lung during United's defeat to the League Two side.
That proved to be the Englishman's last outing in a Manchester United shirt, with Sunderland securing his services ahead of the new Championship season, which starts this weekend.
"You see the direction that the club is going, playing young players and allowing them to express themselves and push on in a great league," he told the Sunderland website.
"I think that is so exciting, so I want to come in and earn the right to play for such a great team and a great club."
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added: "Nathan's a player we have been tracking for some time and we've stayed patient to complete this transfer.
"He's ambitious, positive and focused on improving and trying to earn a place in the starting XI. We want a challenging environment on the grass every day and we believe Nathan can add to what we feel is a really strong group of goalkeepers.
"We thank Man Utd for their collaboration on this – it's not always easy to align at the right moment, but we are happy Nathan is here prior to the season commencing."
Bishop initially joined Man United from Southend United in 2020, but he did not make a single competitive appearance for the senior side.
The Englishman spent the 2021-22 season on loan at League Two side Mansfield Town, helping the Stags reach the playoff final with 16 clean sheets from 46 outings.
Bishop is expected to compete with Anthony Patterson for the gloves at the Stadium of Light, and could make his debut when Tony Mowbray's side open their Championship campaign at home to newly-promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday. body check tags ::
