Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly preparing a £38m offer for Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

The 27-year-old's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with Manchester United believed to be considering a move for the Serbia international before the end of the summer transfer window.

According to Calciomercato, Tottenham are also huge admirers of the midfielder, and Antonio Conte's side are currently lining up a bid for his services.

The report claims that Spurs are willing to offer £38m upfront, with the deal potentially rising to £50.7m once various add-ons have been taken into account.

The midfielder was again in strong form for Lazio last season, scoring 11 goals and registering 12 assists in 47 appearances in all competitions.

Milinkovic-Savic also impressed in his side's 2022-23 Serie A opener against Bologna on Sunday, providing an assist in a 2-1 win.

The Serbian only has two years left to run on his contract in Rome, though, and he is believed to be available for the right price in the summer market.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito recently sent a warning to potential suitors, insisting that the midfielder was "worth much more" than the £42.3m fee that had been reported as a potential asking price.

"Milinkovic for €50m (£42.3m)? At that amount, I don't sell him, he is worth much more," Lotito told Il Messagero. "Our market is thus complete and finished.

"Also, because Luis Alberto will also remain. I quickly kept all the promises I had made. All the reinforcements [manager Maurizio] Sarri wanted on the sheet have been taken."

The midfielder has scored 58 goals and contributed 51 assists in 294 outings for Lazio since arriving at the Italian club from Genk in August 2015.

"Milinkovic is not for sale. I turned down €140m (£120m) bid for him [years ago]", Lotito recently told Rai Sport when questioned on the Serbian. "I'd ask Sergej what he wants to do only in case we receive an important proposal from a world-class top club."

In addition to Man United, Arsenal are also believed to be admirers, although the Gunners have allegedly cooled their interest and are unlikely to make a move before the end of the transfer window.

Tottenham, who have picked up four points from their first two matches of the new Premier League season, have been busy during this summer's transfer window, bringing in Clement Lenglet, Fraser Forster, Ivan Perisic, Djed Spence, Yves Bissouma and Richarlison. body check tags ::
