Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly yet to make an official approach for former playmaker Christian Eriksen, who is set to leave Brentford on a free transfer next month.

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to formally follow up their interest in Brentford playmaker Christian Eriksen, according to a report.

The 30-year-old made his miraculous return to football with the Bees for the second half of the 2021-22 season following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020.

Eriksen left Inter Milan after being fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), and he trained with Erik ten Hag's Ajax before joining Thomas Frank's side.

After taking a number of weeks to build up his match fitness, Eriksen ended the 2021-22 Premier League season with one goal and four assists from 11 outings to help Brentford secure survival.

Eriksen's contract at the Brentford Community Stadium is up at the end of the month, and the Denmark international has been linked with moves to numerous clubs on a free transfer.

Brentford have not given up hope of tying Eriksen down for longer, but the former Inter Milan playmaker may not be able to resist the pull of European-competing clubs.

A shock return to Tottenham has been mooted for Eriksen, but according to the Evening Standard, the Lilywhites have not approached the midfielder to discuss a deal.

Eriksen represented Spurs on 305 occasions between 2013 and 2020, scoring 69 goals and setting up 90 more, but he failed to win a trophy in North London.

The Dane also endured a tough period under Antonio Conte at San Siro, registering just eight goals and three assists in 60 appearances for the Nerazzurri, but he did win the Scudetto in 2020-21.

Manchester United are also thought to be one of the leading contenders to sign Eriken on a free transfer after Ten Hag was left impressed with the playmaker during Ajax training.

A creative midfielder is not thought to be Conte's priority at this moment in time, with the Tottenham boss instead seeking to acquire a new centre-back, right-back and striker in the coming weeks.

Champions League-contending Spurs have already welcomed three new faces to the club this summer, with Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster both joining as free agents.

The Lilywhites also secured the signature of Yves Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion in an initial £25m deal that could fetch as much as £35m with add-ons.

Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence is expected to move to Tottenham in a £20m transfer, while the likes of Milan Skriniar, Gleison Bremer and Evan Ndicka have been mentioned as defensive targets.

Raphinha, Richarlison and Gabriel Jesus are all thought to be on Conte's attacking radar, but Arsenal could allegedly announce the signing of the latter before the end of the week. body check tags ::
