Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer rumours, including David de Gea to Sevilla, Joao Felix to Aston Villa and Jean-Philippe Mateta to RB Leipzig.

Sevilla are reportedly plotting a move to bring Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea back to his homeland.

The 32-year-old is officially a free agent after running down his contract with Manchester United, who failed to agree a renewal with their former number one.

A return to La Liga has been strongly mooted for the ex-Atletico Madrid man for some time, but clubs in Saudi Arabia could also offer him another mammoth payday.

However, Fichajes claims that Sevilla are now considering a swoop for De Gea if current number one Yassine Bounou leaves the club in the current transfer window.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly weighing up an approach for Bounou, and De Gea would be willing to accept a major pay cut in order to return to the Spanish top flight.

De Gea left Man United with a club-high 190 clean sheets in 545 matches, but he was criticised for a number of critical mistakes during the 2022-23 campaign.

From players going from England to Spain to those potentially heading in the opposite direction, Aston Villa are said to be at the head of the queue to sign Atletico Madrid attacker Joao Felix.

The Portugal international failed to make his mark during a six-month loan spell at Chelsea last season, only finding the back of the net four times in 20 appearances and struggling for regular starts under Frank Lampard.

Mauricio Pochettino opted against pursuing a permanent deal for Felix, who is still contracted to Atletico until 2027 but ostensibly does not have a future at the club under Diego Simeone.

The forward's agent Jorge Mendes is now working to find his client a new club, and according to Football Espana - via the Daily Mail - Unai Emery's Aston Villa remain at the head of the queue.

Felix was apparently keen to join French champions Paris Saint-Germain, but Luis Enrique's side are now understood to have rejected the opportunity to bring the 23-year-old to Ligue 1.

Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in Felix, who has amassed 34 goals and 18 assists in 131 matches for Atletico since his €127.2m (£109.3m) signing from Benfica in 2019.

Sticking with the theme of unwanted attackers being moved on, Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta could supposedly be set for a switch to German giants RB Leipzig.

The 26-year-old spent a year on loan at Selhurst Park before his stay was made permanent in January 2022, when the Eagles paid €11m (£9.5m) to Mainz 05 for his services.

Mateta has often rotated with Odsonne Edouard and Jordan Ayew up front, but his performances have left a lot to be desired, managing a mere 10 goals in 67 appearances and finding the net just twice in the top flight last season.

According to The Sun, Leipzig boss Marco Rose - who worked with the Frenchman during his time with Mainz - could now try to offer Mateta an escape route back to the Bundesliga.

Leipzig are reportedly ready to fork out £12m for Mateta, whose contract at Selhurst Park runs for another three seasons, but they are facing competition from Italian side Genoa.

Il Grifone are believed to have approached Palace to discuss a loan deal with an obligation to buy - set at around £10m - if they avoid an immediate demotion back down to Serie B.

Finally, Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is seemingly being nudged towards the City Ground exit door after being left out of their pre-season training camp squad.

The 31-year-old departed Newcastle United in January with the aim of assisting Steve Cooper's side in their relegation dogfight, but he was a peripheral figure during his first six months.

Shelvey played just eight games for the Tricky Trees - starting six of them - before he was ostracised from the team in April due to attitude concerns and subsequently did not make a matchday squad for their final seven league games.

In a bid to offload the midfielder, The Athletic claims that Forest have left him out of their travelling squad for a pre-season training camp in Spain, where they will take on Valencia and Levante.

It is unclear how much interest - if any - Shelvey is attracting, but the Englishman would not command a premium figure, as he only has two years left on his Forest contract.

Shelvey previously represented Charlton Athletic, Liverpool, Blackpool and Swansea before a seven-year stint at Newcastle, while he has also made six appearances for the England national team. body check tags ::
