Man United 'receive two Mason Greenwood bids' as transfer battle heats up

Manchester United reportedly receive bids from Marseille and Lazio for English attacker Mason Greenwood, whom they value at £40m.

Manchester United have reportedly received a pair of bids for exiled attacker Mason Greenwood as they push to rid themselves of the 22-year-old.

After being informed that there was no future for him at Old Trafford, Greenwood reignited his career with Getafe in the 2023-24 season, contributing 10 goals and six assists from 36 games in all tournaments.

The La Liga outfit were interested in keeping Greenwood around but could not afford a permanent deal for the Englishman, who is thought to be valued at around £40m by the Red Devils.

New minority stakeholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe refused to close the door on Greenwood's Man United career a few months back, but there is not expected to be a route back into the first team for the one-cap England international.

However, Greenwood will likely be offered plenty of European escape routes, and according to the Manchester Evening News, both Marseille and Lazio have now come forward with official bids.

Greenwood 'attracting interest' from six clubs

It is not clear how much the French giants or Italian powerhouses have offered for the attacker, but they are unlikely to have met Man United's £40m valuation on the first attempt.

Marseille and Lazio are said to be just two of six clubs tracking the 22-year-old, as there has also been talk of Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli and Juventus potentially throwing their hat into the ring.

However, neither of the latter four have firmed up their interest with an offer, and Marseille and Lazio therefore hold the edge in talks with Man United, who have made finding Greenwood a new club a "priority".

The 22-year-old is thought to favour a move to Marseille, where he would be working under former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Roberto De Zerbi, but his training situation remains shrouded in uncertainty.

Players not involved at Euro 2024 or the Copa America are set to return to pre-season training at Carrington on Monday, and there had been claims that Greenwood could be re-integrated into practice if no transfer had been agreed by then.

Greenwood 'to remain in exile' from Man Utd training

However, the report adds that the Red Devils are still not planning on welcoming Greenwood back into first-team training, and he is "all but certain" to head elsewhere in the summer window.

The 22-year-old has not played for his boyhood club since 2022, shortly before allegations against him were posted online by a woman, leading to his arrest on suspicion of rape and assault.

Greenwood was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and making threats to kill before being released on bail, and he was due to stand trial on charges of attempted rape, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour in November 2023.

However, the forward's case was then dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service, who explained that key witnesses withdrawing and new material coming to light meant that there was no longer a realistic chance of conviction.

Man United were thought to be preparing for Greenwood's return following an internal review of events, but they reversed their decision upon enormous backlash from the public. body check tags ::
