Manchester United and Manchester City both reportedly maintain an interest in Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.
Since the end of 2017, City have been keen on the player after he impressed against Pep Guardiola's side during the Champions League group stages, but United have always indicated that they are prepared to go head to head with their neighbours.
According to The Mirror, neither club are showing any willingness to end their desire to sign the Brazil international and a bidding war could take place in the summer.
However, that could seemingly favour United with City unwilling to bid over what they consider to be the 25-year-old's valuation, with Shakhtar likely to only accept offers over £40m.
In January, Fred penned a new long-term contract with the Ukrainian giants but that is unlikely to prevent a transfer from taking place ahead of next season.
