Manchester United coach Louis van Gaal has reiterated that he wants to keep goalkeeper David de Gea at the club.
The Spanish stopper produced a standout display in his first pre-season appearance for United against Barcelona last night, but speculation has continued to mount over a proposed move to Real Madrid.
"You have seen him in the first 60 minutes – in spite of his injury and not training for one week, he has already shown his quality in this game," said Van Gaal, according to The Express.
"The first chance was for Barcelona and when you stop the first chance, it gives you the platform you can score the first goal, which we did.
"Of course, I do hope that De Gea shall stay, but in this world of football, you never know."
United beat Barca 3-1 thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney, Jesse Lingard and Adnan Januzaj.
