Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has stated his intentions to add some more defenders to his squad this summer.
Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand have left the club, and the Red Devils have been linked with a £16m move for Borussia Dortmund's World Cup winner Mats Hummels.
Asked about his transfer dealings, the Dutchman accepted that he needs more cover in the defensive areas. He told reporters: "We are doing well but we are looking for defenders. Defenders have gone and we have to replace them."
After watching his team beat Inter Milan 5-3 on penalties on Wednesday, the United boss also declared himself "pleased" with the performance of Wilfried Zaha.
"I was pleased," Van Gaal added. "We have to wait and see. He has a lot of competition with the other strikers [for a first-team place]."
The Red Devils begin their new season with a visit of Swansea City on August 16.
