Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed that he does not expect to make many signings this month because players at a "certain level" are not available.
Overnight reports emerged claiming that the club are ready to part with £150m to spend on new players before the end of this month's transfer window.
The Red Devils have been linked to Mats Hummels, Kevin Strootman and Seamus Coleman, but so far the club have only acquired the signature of former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer.
"I don't think we shall be very active," Van Gaal told reporters. "Not many players at a certain level are available. I have also said when we have to buy a player he has to be better than our players who are now playing and that is a difficult job."
United are currently fourth in the Premier League table, 12 points behind leaders Chelsea.
