Donny van de Beek has confirmed his exit from Manchester United, with the 20-time English champions agreeing to sell the central midfielder to Girona.

The Netherlands international made the move to Old Trafford in 2020 off the back of scoring 41 goals and registering 34 assists in 175 matches for Ajax.

However, Van de Beek has struggled to make his mark with the Red Devils, only managing two goals and two assists in 62 appearances in all competitions.

The 27-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt, but he only made eight appearances for the German outfit, who turned down the chance to sign him on a permanent basis.

Van de Beek confirms Man United exit

Van de Beek is now heading for Girona, with the La Liga outfit, who will play in the Champions League next season, expected to soon announce his arrival.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Girona will pay just €500,000 (£422,000) for the Dutchman, although the add-ons could eventually take the deal to €15m (12.7m).

Van de Beek will allegedly pen a contract with the La Liga side until June 2028, while Man United have a sell-on clause in the agreement.

The midfielder has taken to social media to announce his exit, and he said that Manchester 'will always have a special place in his heart'.

"Dear Manchester United family. Today is a memorable day as my adventure at the club comes to an end. I want to thank you all for your support throughout the years," Van de Beek wrote on Instagram.

Van de Beek will bid to reignite his career in Spain

"From the moment we arrived at Manchester United, we felt extremely welcome and we are grateful for that. Thank you to everyone at the club for making us feel at home. A special thanks to all the fans that made these years unforgettable.

"Besides the football, the birth of our two children here ensures that Manchester will always have a special place in our hearts. Good luck to everybody, we'll meet again."

Van de Beek made 36 appearances for Man United during his first season at Old Trafford, but he has only made 26 outings in his last three campaigns for the Red Devils.

The midfielder will leave the English giants having made just 35 Premier League appearances. body check tags ::
