West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has confirmed that the club have made contact with Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher regarding a transfer this month.
United manager Louis van Gaal suggested yesterday that the Scotland international could leave after spending almost 20 years at Old Trafford.
Fletcher, whose contract expires in the summer, has also been linked to West Ham United and Spanish side Valencia.
"We've spoken to Darren and had a chat with him," ESPN quotes Pulis as saying. "He'll let us know. The timeframe will be deadline day.
"I'm not sure about United, that might be one of his options. He's a fantastic lad. I'm not sure [if there is a fee involved], he'll make a decision where he wants to go and then the clubs will get involved in negotiations."
Fletcher has made just four Premier League appearances under Van Gaal this season.
